How do I log foods using a photo or voice?

Learn How to Log Food with AI

With balantia, you can log foods and meals quickly and easily using a photo or your voice, without having to search for each food individually. The AI assistant identifies the foods you describe or photograph and estimates their nutritional value.

Logging with a photo

On the “Log” screen, tap the + button next to the meal you want to log and select “Take a Meal Photo”.

You can choose from the following options:

  • “Food”: Take a photo of a meal or food. The AI assistant identifies the foods in the photo and estimates their quantities, calories, and nutrients.

  • “Label”: Take a photo of a product's nutrition label. The AI assistant extracts the nutritional information, so you don't have to enter it manually.

Logging with your voice

From the same food search screen, select “Voice Logging” and simply describe what you ate, including the foods and, if possible, their quantities.

The AI assistant processes your description and estimates the calories and nutrients of the foods you mentioned.

Reviewing and adjusting the results

AI food logging provides estimates and may not accurately identify every ingredient or portion size in a meal.

Before completing your entry, review the results and make any necessary adjustments to better reflect what you actually ate.

If you're photographing a nutrition label, pay particular attention to the units of measurement and whether the values are listed per 100 g or per serving.

Where are your entries saved?

Foods created through AI logging are automatically saved under “My Foods”, so you can easily find and reuse them without taking another photo or making a new voice entry.

How accurate is AI food logging?

Accuracy depends on the quality of your photo or description, the type of meal, and how easily its ingredients and portion sizes can be identified.

For example, AI may have difficulty identifying hidden ingredients, oils, sauces, or the exact cooking method.

Photo and voice logging make tracking your nutrition faster and more convenient, but reviewing the results is still important for a more reliable estimate of your nutritional intake.
